Glowing umbrellas and art without authorship
The modern performance company Pilobolus and MIT’s Distributed Robotics Laboratory teamed up at PopTech 2012 along with several hundred volunteers for a collaborative art excercise. Guided by a camera fixed on a towering crane, the volunteers moved around holding umbrellas fixed with LED lights to spontaneously create dramatic colorful formations in a darkened outdoor amphitheater.

The state of Maine is known for its 3000 +/- miles of coastline. Bold granite, skyward reaching spruce, high tides, low tides are all part of the quaint and beautiful seascape. Nestled about mid way along the coast is Penobscot Bay- a beautiful self-enclosed paradise in its own right. Within that bay is an even more parochial location: Hurricane Sound and a thorofare formed by a basin of islands outlying Vinalhaven to the SSW.
Gotta hand it to the heli pilots and camera operators that give those of us at home a front row seat to one hell of a show.
Absolutely mesmerizing!
